Port Sudan Sudanow--A farmer saw the mallow tree growing wild among the trees of his home farm. The sight of its beautiful leaves and flowers caught his attention, so he searched for it and learned that this tree has many benefits. He began to try it on himself, and it was the reason for treating many diseases. The results were amazing and the benefits were great. He still uses it and recommends that everyone use it.
To learn more about the properties and benefits of this plant, Sudanow met with the agricultural engineer and researcher in the field of plants and orchards, Salwa Muhammad Ali Suleiman, who said: Mallow is a wild plant that grows naturally in valleys and plains after rainfall, in a moderate climate and grows abundantly in all the states of Sudan, especially the north, Darfur and Kordofan in western Sudan. It is known locally by the name (Sartmon), English name: mallow
Scientific name: Malva sylvestris
Mallow is used as a treatment for many diseases because it contains a large percentage of antioxidants and vitamins
The inhabitants of those areas used it as food by cooking it and using it green or dried after adding it to boiling water in the form of a drink like tea. Mallow belongs as a plant classification to the Malvaceae family, shared with hibiscus, cotton plants, okra and watercress, and is eaten in the West like a salad. It is delicious and beautiful. Also, mallow is used as an ornamental plant for the beauty of its flowers, which are later pollinated and produce seeds. It needs a moderate climate to grow, and high temperatures help the flowers appear early with small leaves. It can be harvested several times in moderate weather. Engineer Salma says that mallow helps treat mouth and gum pain. This feature is considered one of the most common benefits of mallow, especially when used topically, on the site of pain and skin wounds by placing it in the form of compresses on the affected area. Due to the effectiveness of the substances inside the leaves in relieving pain and accelerating the healing period, it also helps in enhancing the health of the immune system through its antibacterial and antiviral properties. It also helps in treating bruises, bites, rashes, or any other skin problems, as using its special gum helps reduce the risk of the area becoming inflamed and swollen. These are some of the most important health benefits of mallow. It also helps in treating respiratory diseases and chest congestion by getting rid of accumulated phlegm, and treating hair loss. The engineer says, mallow is an effective plant in combating and slowing down aging, as it contains properties that help stimulate collagen production in the face and thus slow down the appearance of annoying wrinkles. Mallow oil can be used to achieve this benefit. It is also used as a treatment for digestive problems because it works as a laxative that helps speed up bowel movements and get rid of indigestion and constipation problems by using it as a warm drink. To solve sleep problems, using the oil or drinking a cup of tea with mallow helps calm and relax the body, as it has properties that help the body relax, and with the appropriate environment for sleep, it will contribute to your falling asleep quickly. . . All these benefits make this plant that grows naturally without much cost or effort. It is necessary to conduct more research on its benefits and expand and cultivate it with more scientific care to benefit from it in localizing the pharmaceutical industry.
