Sudanow Extends Congratulations to the Islamic Nation on the Anniversary of Al-Isra’ and Al-Mi‘raj, the Two Everlasting
18 January, 2026
Khartoum (Sudanow) —
The Islamic nation across the East and the West commemorates every year, on the twenty-seventh of the month of Rajab, the anniversary of Al-Isra’ and Al-Mi‘raj. On this fragrant occasion, the editorial board of Sudanow Magazine extends its heartfelt congratulations to all Muslims and to the steadfast, patient Sudanese people, asking God Almighty to return it upon everyone with goodness and peace, to spread security and stability across our land, to relieve Sudan of its hardship, protect its people, and grant us a bright future filled with safety and reassurance. We pray that the coming year finds our country adorned in the garment of security, and that God wipes away the sorrows of Sudan and its people, and the sorrows of Muslims everywhere, just as He alleviated the sorrow of His noble Messenger Muhammad ibn ‘Abdullah, peace and blessings be upon him.
The anniversary of Al-Isra’ and Al-Mi‘raj is considered one of the greatest miracles, preserved and documented by the Holy Qur’an to remain until the Day of Judgment. This divine documentation appears in two noble chapters: Surat Al-Isra’, which records the Night Journey from Al-Masjid Al-Haram to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa, and Surat An-Najm, which records the Ascension of the Prophet, peace be upon him, to Sidrat Al-Muntaha, where divine effusions and radiant heavenly lights abound.
This momentous event carries profound meanings. First, it signifies a special honor bestowed upon the Prophet of this nation, peace be upon him, and by extension an honor to his community, as expressed in the verse: “You are the best nation produced for mankind: you enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong.”
Second, it signifies the unifying bond of all divine religions, which are, in essence, Islam: Al-Masjid Al-Haram is the qiblah of the final nation, while Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa was the qiblah of previous nations. This meaning is completed by the Prophet’s leading of the other prophets in prayer in the courtyard of Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa.
Third, it powerfully emphasizes the central importance of prayer, which is the direct connection between the servant and his Lord. Prayer was ordained for the honored Prophet at a summit no one before him had ever reached—not even those of the highest heavenly assembly. He ascended alone, witnessed the greatest signs of his Lord, and God described that moment with the words: “The sight did not swerve, nor did it transgress.” This is a confirmation of a majestic, decisive moment. In those lofty heights, prayer was prescribed—and that alone is a greatness before which foreheads bow in humility.
On this great anniversary, which Imam Al-Busiri described in his famous Burda, saying:
You journeyed by night from one sanctuary to another,
Like the full moon gliding through deep darkness.
You kept ascending until you reached a rank
Of two bow-lengths, never attained nor sought before.
All the prophets were brought forward by it,
The messengers presenting you as one served above all servants.
You pierced the seven layered heavens with them,
In a procession where you bore the standard.
This anniversary was a turning point, a victory for Islam, and a driving force behind the building of the Islamic state and the consolidation of its foundations. We hope it may also be a catalyst for Sudan—an inspiration for reform, national revival, and the overcoming of divisions in order to build a great homeland that embraces everyone.
May you all be well every year.
