The Sudanese sports and media community has been struck with grief by the passing of one of the country’s most prominent pioneers of sports photography, the distinguished Abdullah Younis, chief photojournalist of Goon sports newspaper. He passed away this morning in Cairo after a long and accomplished career marked by dedication and creativity, during which he documented some of the most important moments in stadiums and sporting tournaments.

Abdullah Younis was regarded as one of the most influential photographers who left a clear imprint through his lens. He was known for his ability to capture decisive moments on the field and convey the spirit of competition and passion through professional images that earned widespread admiration from audiences.

The late photographer was among those who carved out a unique legacy in the world of visual storytelling. He possessed a refined artistic sense that enabled him to capture exceptional shots that became enduring memories in the hearts of sports fans. Among his colleagues, he was known for his high level of professionalism, precision, and deep passion for his craft, making him a school of his own in sports photojournalism.

He worked for many years with Goon sports newspaper, as well as with Al-Hilal Club’s publication, accompanying the team on numerous domestic and international trips. He also contributed to Al-Sahafa newspaper. His legacy extended into the next generation through his son, Hani Abdullah Younis, a director and sports journalist who previously worked with Goon and now works for the Sudafut sports website.
