Khartoum (Sudanow) – The nation has bid farewell to Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Rukayni, guide and successor of the Muhammadan Sunni Qur’anic Rukayni Order, who passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026, in the Arab Republic of Egypt at the age of 106, after a long and distinguished journey devoted to the service of the Holy Qur’an, the dissemination of Islamic sciences, and spiritual education.
The Sheikh was raised in a household of knowledge and remembrance of God. He studied under his father, Sheikh Mohammed Ahmed Al-Rukayn, founder of the Rukayni Order. He memorized the Holy Qur’an and received extensive education in jurisprudence, Hadith, Qur’anic exegesis, and spiritual purification, eventually becoming one of Sudan’s most prominent symbols of moderate Sunni Islamic preaching and Sufism.
He assumed leadership of the Rukayni Order following the passing of his brother, Sheikh Mohammed Salih Al-Rukayn, in 2003. He continued spreading religious guidance, education, and spiritual mentorship, contributing to the establishment of mosques, zawiyas, and educational centers both inside and outside Sudan. He also devoted special attention to teaching Maliki jurisprudence, the Prophetic biography, and reconciliation among people.
Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Rukayni was widely known for his profound scholarly and educational stature and for his deep influence in nurturing generations of students, preachers, and disciples. His gatherings were a destination for knowledge, remembrance, and spiritual tranquility. He also played a significant role in promoting the values of tolerance, love, and moderation.
With his passing, Sudan and the wider Islamic world lose one of the foremost scholars of spiritual education and Islamic preaching, who dedicated his life to serving religion and guiding people toward closeness to Allah Almighty.
