Dr. Magda Mustafa Sadig, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Financial and Banking Studies at Sudan International University, has launched a national initiative calling on the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to introduce "Community Peace" as a compulsory course in all Sudanese universities. The initiative views the course as a strategic step toward rebuilding the Sudanese individual and fostering a culture of peace and coexistence in the aftermath of years of conflict and war.

Dr. Sadig emphasized that Sudan is going through an exceptional period that requires higher education institutions to expand their role beyond knowledge dissemination to include shaping national character, promoting citizenship and social responsibility, and preparing a generation capable of leading the country's recovery and reconstruction.

She explained that the proposed course would introduce students to the concepts of positive peace, citizenship, and respect for cultural, religious, and ethnic diversity. It would also develop students' skills in dialogue, negotiation, peaceful conflict resolution, acceptance of others, rejection of hate speech and violence, and the promotion of justice and social responsibility.

She further noted that investing in peace education is an investment in Sudan's future, as it will help graduate individuals equipped with the awareness and skills needed to build a cohesive society while strengthening the role of universities as key partners in national reconciliation and sustainable development.

According to Dr. Sadig, the initiative is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 16, which promotes peaceful and inclusive societies, access to justice, and strong institutions.

She called on the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research to adopt the initiative and establish a specialized academic committee comprising experts in education, sociology, psychology, law, and strategic studies. The committee would be responsible for developing the course curriculum and teaching methodologies in a way that reflects Sudan's social realities and current challenges.

Dr. Sadig concluded by affirming that Sudanese universities can become genuine incubators for peacebuilding, national unity, and the preparation of future generations capable of leading the country toward greater stability, security, and prosperity.
