The Birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): A Message of Peace and Mercy

Muslims around the world commemorate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him (PBUH), during the month of Rabi’ al-Awwal, recalling a message that transformed human society and emphasized mercy, justice, brotherhood and human dignity.

A Remembrance of Enduring Values
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in Makkah in the Year of the Elephant and grew up as an orphan. He later received the message of Islam, calling for monotheism, justice, compassion and respect for human dignity, while rejecting oppression, discrimination and tribal divisions.
Islamic sources also recount a number of signs traditionally associated with his birth. Among the reports found in the Prophetic tradition is the account of the light seen by his mother, Aminah bint Wahb, at the time of his birth, which was said to have illuminated the palaces of Syria.
For Muslims, however, the significance of the occasion extends beyond the historical remembrance of his birth. It is an opportunity to reflect on the values embodied in his message and their relevance to contemporary societies facing conflict, division and humanitarian crises.
Sudan and the Call for Peace
For Sudan, which continues to face the consequences of war, displacement and social divisions, the occasion carries particular significance.
The values associated with the Prophet’s message—dialogue, compassion, tolerance, justice and reconciliation—offer an opportunity to renew calls for peace and to place the dignity and wellbeing of people above political, regional or social divisions.
Remembering the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) also provides an opportunity to reject racism, regionalism and hatred, while strengthening a culture of coexistence and reconciliation among Sudanese communities.
As Sudan seeks a path toward peace, the message remains relevant: peace begins with respect for human dignity, while stable nations are built on justice, unity and tolerance.
