Khartoum – (Sudanow)
In a visit highlighting concern for the welfare and needs of older people, Ms. Azza Mohi El-Din Mabrouk, Founder and Chairperson of the Azza Charity Foundation and wife of Sudanese Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris, visited Al-Daw Hajouj Home for the Elderly in Bahri to assess the residents’ conditions and identify the facility’s healthcare and living requirements.
She was accompanied by Ms. Daad Kamil Idris, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Operations at the Foundation. The visit was also attended by Khartoum State Governor Ahmed Othman Hamza, Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers Ambassador Ali Mohamed Ali, and Director-General of Social Development in Khartoum State Siddiq Hassan Farini.
The delegation toured the home’s buildings and facilities, accompanied by a specialist engineer, and listened to staff members describe the challenges they face and the most urgent needs. These included healthcare, medicines, food supplies, hygiene materials, and other requirements necessary to improve the quality of services provided by the facility.
In response, the Foundation, in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Health, worked to secure the resources needed to purchase essential medicines for residents. It also provided personal hygiene supplies, food items, and clothing in cooperation with the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization, with support from Dr. Al-Nour Al-Sheikh Al-Nour, Chairman of the Higher Council for Social Peace.

The Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to following up on the home’s needs and providing support that extends beyond immediate relief. Its proposed interventions include regular medical examinations, treatment and medication, improved nutrition, and better living conditions for elderly residents.
During the visit, Ms. Azza Mohi El-Din Mabrouk praised the contributions of older people and their role in building society. She stressed that caring for them and ensuring they enjoy a dignified life is a shared responsibility requiring cooperation among government institutions, the private sector, and civil society organizations, as well as the development of local and international partnerships.
For her part, Ms. Daad Kamil Idris discussed with the Khartoum State Governor and the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers ways to strengthen social welfare initiatives and the importance of moving beyond temporary assistance towards long-term projects that address people's actual needs. She also emphasized that such efforts must be guided by transparency, accountability, and sound resource management to ensure that assistance reaches those who need it and delivers tangible results.
The Azza Charity Foundation is a Sudanese non-governmental organization working in humanitarian and development fields. Its programmes cover health, nutrition, education, water, sanitation and hygiene, alongside support for women and girls, children, older people, and vulnerable communities. The Foundation focuses on combining emergency assistance with projects that help communities recover and restore essential services.
The Foundation announced that it would continue monitoring conditions at Al-Daw Hajouj Home and work with the relevant authorities to identify needs and establish priorities, paving the way for more sustainable care and support programmes.
The Foundation also expressed its appreciation to Ambassador Badr El-Din Al-Jaafari for his continued support and contribution to the logistical arrangements for the visit.
The Foundation affirmed that the visit marks the beginning of sustained joint efforts to improve conditions at the home and provide residents with the care they deserve. It emphasized that older people are entitled to attention, dignity, and appreciation, and that caring for them is an essential part of society's responsibility towards its members.
