Arab Children Parliament

Sharjah, UAE (Sudanow) - Sudanese child Waleed Omer Alatta has been elected Speaker for the Arab Children Parliament in its first round. Twenty six members voted for Waleed against seventeen for his Saudi rival Abdul Malik bin Zaiad in the competition in which children from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Djibouti, Tunisia, Iraq, Morocco and Kuwait participated, in attendance were the Sharjah Deputy Governor Sheikh Abdallah bin Salim Algasmi and a number of Arab diplomats and media representatives. Waleed is a student at Al-Sheikh Mustafa Alamin model school in Khartoum. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohamed Algasimi, the Sharjah Governor, launched the Arab Children Parliament initiative to promote child participation in the societal issues, raise involvement in public topics, and decision making process among Arab children. The Parliament will submit its resolutions to the Arab League. It will also prepare an annual report on children status in each Arab country. E N D
