U.S. Embassy to Sudan Welcomes Progress Achieved in Implementing Cooperation Agreements between South Sudan and Sudan

Khartoum, Sudan (Sudanow)-The American embassy in Khartoum has issued a statement welcoming progress achieved in implementation cooperation between the Sudan and south Sudan, calling for yet closer cooperation to resolving pending sensitive question, including the oil rich area of Abyei.

''The US on The United States Embassy to Sudan welcomes the progress achieved in implementing the September 27 cooperation agreements between South Sudan and Sudan during the April 22-23 Joint Political Security Mechanism meeting facilitated by the African Union High Level Implementation Panel.'' A press release received by sudanow.info.sd in Khartoum on Wednesday said.

The statement stressed that the US applauded the decision of the two governments to immediately open eight border crossing corridors. Cooperation on managing border crossings and trade has the potential to produce significant benefits for the citizens of both nations.

''We are also encouraged by both Sudan and South Sudan’s ongoing efforts to demilitarize the border area, and urge both governments to continue working closely together to fully implement their agreements and to resolve remaining issues such as Abyei.'' The statement said.
