Who are we?
We are a pioneer national humanitarian Society works during peace and war times, in accordance with the fundamental principles of Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement which are: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, voluntary Service, Unity and Universality.
We have enjoining memberships in various National, International Authorities and committees, such as National Peace Taskforce, National Authority International Humanitarian Law, IGAD, High Popular Defence and HIV/Aids National Network.
We are the only National Society in the Republic of Sudan That represents the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, according to principles stipulated in the International Conventions.
In June 2010, the SRCS law has been proclaimed by the authority giving the NS a strong legal base and clear mandate to run First Aid, emergency response, health interventions and other humanitarian operations.
Establishment and foundation
The Sudanese Red Crescent Society was founded as to cabinet decree No 869; Issued on 3rd April 1956 also the cabinet signed the Geneva Conventions that issued on 9th
August 1949. The Sudanese Red Crescent Society is considering as one of oldest Sudanese voluntary society. It has been recognized as Red Crescent National Society on the 19th International Conference of Red Cross held in New Delhi. India on October 1957 on which SRC was also became a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
In addition to that the Sudanese Red Crescent is founder and a member of Arab Secretariat of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies which is main premises in Riyadh-Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Governance
General Assembly: It is highest authority in the society the duration of it. 4 year and meets every 2 year.
Central Committee: It is constituted of 30 members its function is to follow up the implementation of the resolutions and recommends of the General Assembly. Meet every 6 month.
Board of Directors: it consists of ten members its task is to monitor the executive body of the Society, meet on monthly base.
Our Objectives
· Promote humanitarian and voluntary values
· promote and strengthen the capacity of the community to confront emergency and control disaster impacts.
· Provide first aid, primary health care, preventive health and environmental sanitation.
· Disseminate Fundamental Principles, International Humanitarian law, to promote values of peace and solidarity among public and specially the youth.
· Work to build close relations and exchange knowledge with National Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies, and other relevant organizations
· Disseminate peace culture; participate in peace building and development.
The Fundamental Principles
The Sudanese Red Crescent Society, works in accordance with the following principles of the International Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent.
Humanity:
Alleviate human suffering, protects life, respect dignity and improve understanding and friendship between nations
Neutrality
The Sudanese Red Crescent Society shall not take any sides in hostilities or engage at any time in controversies of political, racial, religious, or ideological nature what ever it may be.
Independence
The Sudanese Red Crescent Society is an independent organization as per the Red Cross/Red Crescent Fundamental Principles and subject to the law and legislation's of its country.
Voluntary Services:
The Sudanese Red Crescent Society is a voluntary relief Society not promoted in any manner of desire for gain.
Unity:
The Sudanese Red Crescent Society is the only Society in the Sudan. That represents the International Movement of the Red Cross and Red Crescent and its membership is available to all.
Universality:
The Sudanese Red Crescent Society is a member of a global movement, where all Societies have equal status, share equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other.

Our Role in Peace and War
The Sudanese Red Crescent Society acts as an auxiliary to the official authorities during war and peace times as per article (26) of the first Geneva Convention of 1949.
In Peace:
We provide humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable and needy victims of events and disasters organize first aid. Awareness and health education programs, as well as other programs that concern with social matters.
In War:
Evacuation of wounded and injured persons, treat them, assist war prisoners and their families as per Geneva conventions.
Provide relief, first aid for victims.
Provide shelters for homeless persons and protect them.
Restore family links.
Disseminate International Humanitarian law and generally upgrade the awareness about it in the community at large and in conflict areas in particular. Also disseminate principles of International Movement of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
Highlight of our progress
Through out its long brilliant history, SRCS had gained confidence of the International Movement therefore; it was nominated to occupy positions of:
Vice president of Federation of Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies;
President of health committee of the International Movement of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
Represented African Cotenant for the membership of the Federation board of directors.
Nominated for membership of Arab Secretariat of Red Cross and red Crescent Societies for several times.
In addition to that:
SRCS is considered as the most contributing member of African and Arab National Societies, by supporting the Federation's International relief mission with experts.
This besides SRCS has been granted the following orders and medals:
Order of achievement from the President of the Republic.
Golden medal from king of Spain.
Golden Star from Jordan Red Crescent Society.
What Distinguishes Us
Our early presence in the scents of events despite all difficulties, we always take the initiative to assist the deprived and relief the victims that thanks to the preparedness of SRCS volunteers who deployed every where in country and whose total figure amounts to 300.000 volunteers.
We disseminate principles of International Humanitarian law in collaboration with International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for public in general and for parties to conflict in particular.
We recruit volunteers, train them in different humanitarian fields in order to carry out their missions and duties in proper way.
We build up entire partnership with our communities and mobilize them to confront challenges in term of natural and man made disasters.
Achievements:
In accordance with the decentralization process that has been applied in the country, the SRCS established 15 state branches.
The SRCS provided humanitarian assistance, preventive and curing medical services to the (IDP) and the refugees in the different states of Sudan.
The Society provided relief items for the people affected by the conflict that took place in the state of South Kordufan and Blue Nile during 2011.
The Society formed emergency rooms in the GQs and its state branches to prepare for elections in Sudan In April 2011, during this operation the Society provided first aid service for 58284 persons in deferent states.
The Society established a clinic for the returnees to their areas in South via the dry port in Kosti in White Nile state.
In the field potable water the SRCS dug 100 water wells and hand pumps to make available clean drinking water for the population in Darfur and Eastern Sudan regions.
The SRCS has more than 70 primary medical services to more than 1.500 million persons of the returnees, refugees and internally displaced person.
All this together to the culture and development programmes in the partnership with the community represented in the aids programme, fighting bad habits, traditions illiteracy, environmental sanitation and other programmes.
Future Prospective
More achievement in term of capacity building of state branches and developing their human and financial resources in order to realize self reliance.
Extend authorizations that have been delegated to board of directors and executive directors of state branches as per SRCS decentralization polices.
A lot of work to do in recruiting and training of new volunteers.
Spread out first aid activities in the community at large.
Disseminate the international movement principles and raise the knowledge. Awareness of people to International Humanitarian law (IHL).
Preparedness and response to disaster.
Promote capacities of local communities in order to face their problems and to ensure sustainability of projects and programs provided to them.
Disseminate peace culture in various sectors of the community and include its culture in all SRCS training activities.
Components of the International RC/RC Movement
National Societies of RC/RC
The number of the Red Cross and red Crescent Societies, amounted to 187 NS , and the Sudanese Red Crescent Society is one there national societies.
International Committee of Red Cross:
The International committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) established in 1863. Their main premises are in Geneva in Switzerland. It is an independent organization and aims at protecting lives and dignity of wars armed conflicts and violence victims as well as providing assistance to them and disseminates the IHL.
The International l Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)
Established in 1919 and its main premises are in Geneva. It is formed from all Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies that were recognized by ICRC. Its mission to provide assistance to most needy categories without discrimination during disasters in addition to supporting the national Societies in the humanitarian area.
