Khartoum, March 18 (Sudanow) - Defense Minister, Gen Abdul Rahim Mohamed Hussein has warned against the threat posed by the spread of fire arms in both Sudan and Chad because of the current unrests in neighboring Libya

Gen Hussein said Sudan was closely monitoring the development in Libya and the possibility of weapons leaks into the country from the Libyan arms stores, pointing out that the current crisis in Darfur was aggravated by the spread of firearms in the hands of private civilians. The Minister, Gen Hussein has stressed the need for stability in Libya a way that would contribute in the stability and the security in the region.

He underlined that Sudan, Chad and the Central African Republic would cooperate for securing the joint borders. The Chadian Minister of Defense, General Issa Gadalla has meanwhile said he has received instruction from the Chadian armed forces supreme commander, Idris Debby that the Central African Republic be involved in the protection of the borderlines between the three countries and that a summit meeting would be held to review issues of common interest between the three countries. Sudan and Chad have formed joint forces to patrol the area between the Sudan and Chad and to prevent any incursion from one area to another.

The Chadian Defense minister has pointed out that the joint forces have succeeded in putting an end to armed robberies and unruly elements from one area to another a matter that reflected positively on the development of the border areas between the Sudan and Chad. He said those joint forces could be a model for other countries in the region to follow.
