Sudan delegation to Addis Ababa talks: negotiations are a process of give and take; the agreement is satisfactory to both sides and allows for cooperation so that the two states are mutually viable

Khartoum, August 4 (Sudanow) - The Sudan delegation to the Addis Ababa negotiations with the delegation of the state of south Sudan, has stressed the need that the coming transitional period should witness cooperation between Khartoum and Juba so that the two states are mutually viable, criticizing the figures and rates quoted by the local media about the transit fees of the agreement the two sides have reached in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In statement to the Sudan news agency SUNA, the delegation has pointed out that the two sides have reached a final agreement under the supervision of the African Union High level Implementation Panel AUHIP led by former South African President Thabo Mbeki, on payment oil and fees related to the oil and oil services.
The statement has pointed out that the agreement is composed of two parts, the first deals with the transitional payments based on the principle agreed upon by the parties and the AUHIP that there should be a transitional period of three years and half during which the two states would cooperate so that they would be a mutual viability.
The statement said the objective is that during this period the negative impact caused by the stoppage of the oil produced in the south on Sudan would be reduced and at the same time the State of South Sudan should be able to build the newly born south Sudan and to develop the basic services there.
The statement received by SUNA has pointed out that the second part of the agreement is related to the sovereign transit charges and CPA service charges in Higlig, Jabalain and transports via the oil pipeline in addition the maritime terminal services.
The Sudan delegation has expressed its hope that this agreement would pave the way for comprehensive agreement on the other remaining issues, particularly the arrangements that would lead to save and secure borders allowing the easy flow of oil, trade, goods and citizens across the borders.
The delegation has pointed out that the rates quoted by the media regarding the oil fees were not accurate. However the delegation has stressed that the overall contents of the stories were correct.
The delegation has pointed out that in its view what has been reached was a win-win situation and that negotiation process should always be seen from such an angle, of give and take.
