05 October, 2013Khartoum, (Sudanow)- The Sudan Civil Aid Organization has issued a statement on the recent US court order on the release of Sudanese national detained in the Guantanamo Bay prison. following is the full, un-official translation of the text of the statement: -
Statement from the Sudan Civil Aid Organization (CAO) on the release of the Sudanese Guantanamo detainee, Ibrahim Osman Idris
Since its adoption of the dossier on the defense of the Sudanese nationals detained in Guantanamo, CAO has been looking forward to the day when this dossier would be closed down with the release of all Sudanese nationals held therein and with the settlement of all their due rights related to this unjust detention.
And here is a court that decided to release Sudanese national, Ibrahim Osman Idris, after over ten years in detention, without trial, despite the fact that it was proven he was not fit for interrogation because of the psychological harm he suffered, still the US Administration continued to ignore this mater and kept him in detention for at least 10 years, without any justification for his detention, save for the sake of revenge and inflicting injustice.
Today the American Administration conceding to let go its opposition for the court ruling, comes as a face saving attempt, for the immoral conduct that it followed despite the advise of legal counselor, appointed by the Pentagon for the defense of Ibrahim Osman, and the refusal of the American Administration to respond to the release request since 2005.
We in the CAO, congratulate brother Ibrahim Osman and his brave family, on this rare decision by the court that stands as a precedent to open the avenue for the release of the remainder of the 164 detainees who hail from different nationalities, and who are still in detention inside the infamous prison.
We appeal to the American Administration to speed up the implementation of this Court ruling and to expatriate our citizen Ibrahim Osman to his homeland without delay, as it has already bowed to the ruling of the concerned court which will come into force automatically in thirty days, the time set to inform the US Congress with the ruling.
We will continue, unabated, our efforts until our other brother, Mohamed Al Nour Osman, the last Sudanese detainee in this infamous detention, is released.
