Local authorities stress need for joint Ethio-Sudanese common border security force
30 November, 2013KHARTOUM, Sudan The local Sudanese, Ethiopian authorities have underlined the need for finding a joint force for maintenance of security along the common borderline.
Reporting from Damazin, capital of the Blue Nile state, near the borders with Ethipia and South Sudan, the Sudan News Agency SUNA said the Commissioner of the Sudanese eastern border Gaissan Locality, Mansour al-Toam, discussed with the Commissioner of the facing Ethiopian Asousah Province, Babikir al-Khalifa security issues of common concern in the presence of representatives of the regular forces of the two countries.
Toam was quoted by SUNA as saying that the meeting was aimed at intensifying and coordinating efforts between Gaissan and Asousah for keeping order on the common borderline for maintenance of the common interests.
The Sudanese Locality Commissioner said the meeting was part of a series of meetings for reviewing security on the common borderline, adding that his Locality is ready for cooperation for the sake of ensuring the safety of the civilians.
He said the meeting underscored the need for “creating a joint force” for protection of the interests of the two peoples in the borderline areas.
