Joint communique of the Third Sudan Ethiopia High Level Joint Commission Meeting,1-4 December 2013 -Khartoum
1. The 3rd Sudan –Ethiopia High Level Joint Comission Meeting was held in Khartoum from 1-4 December 2013 at the courteous invitation of the Government of the Republic of the Suda. The Summit Meeting of the|High Level Joint Commission was co-chaired by H.E President Omar Hasan Ahmede Al Bashir and H.E Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn.
2. His Excellency President Omar Hassan Ahmed Al Bashir, extended his warm welcome to his excellency Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and to all members of the Ethiopia Delegation.
3. His excellency Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalpegn while expressing his appreciation for thee warm welcome extended to him and his delegation stressed the importnce of the sudan to Ethiopia and the region and further underscored the significance of the Higth Level Joint Commission in enhancing the bilateral cooperation in the political, economic and social sectors.
4. In thir respective statements the two leaders reitreated their commitment and determination to consolidate ties and relations between their peopoes in all fields.
5. The two leaders were briefed by H. E Mr. Ali Ahmed Karti, Minister of foreign Affairs of the Republioc of the Sudan and H. E Dr.Tedros Adhanmom, minister of Foreign Affraiors of the Federal Democratic Republc of the Ethiopia co-chairs fo the joint |Ministerial Commission ofn the outcome fo the |Joint Experts and Miniterial Meetings on the status of the bilateral cooperation and proposed mechyanisms of the Ethio-Sudan High level joint commission.
6. Both sides epxressed their satisfaction ove the encouraging progress registered so far in the areas of political, economic and social development coperation, especially on infrastructureal interconnection between the two countries.
7. With the view of further strengtehening the esixdting cooepration, both sides reviewed the level of performance in the politial, economic and social spheres.
8. Both sides expressed thei satisfaction to the signing of eh framework agreement by the two leaders on trade, ecoomic and technical cooperation which willo further enhence the ecdnoic int3egration between the two ssterly countries. They further noted wth satisfactin the signing of bvarious agreements and MOUs during theis session.
9. The Sudanese side briefed the ethiopian counterpart on the current status of excellent bilateral relatin bewween the sudan and osuth sudan and commmended the consteructive role layed by Ethiopia in this regard
10. The ethipian side expessed its commitment to contribute in any way possible to peace in the sudan and south sudan
11. The sudan side appreciated th3e solidarity demonstrated by Etghiopia in deploying peaqce keeping contigents in Abyei and Darfur and in facilitating pqcde process on bilateral basis and in its capacity as the chair of IGAD and AU.
12. The Ethiopia side expressed its full support to the effots of the sudanese government to strengtehen peacde in darfur within the frame work of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur
13. The Sudanese side expressed its appreciation for the role Ethiopia plays on bilateral baiss and on its capacity as the current chairperson of the AU for its firm stance on the internationa criminalo court (ICC) and its destabilization on african peace and stability.
14. The two sides appreciate on going meetings between the sudan, Etguiiopa abd Egypt to continue discussions on the recommendations of the internaional |Panel of Exoerts (IpoE) regardign the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
15. Both sides recommiteed themselves to the decision of the of the IGAD Assembly of Hweads of State and Gvoernent to revitalize IGAD to speed up the regional int3egration process and expressed their determination to coordinate their efrots to this end
16. Both sides expressed their suppprot to the federal government os aomalia and underlined the urgend need for conrete assitance to the government in all areas so that the process of peace building would e irreversible.
17. The two sides condemned the heinous terrorist attack in Kenya perpetrated by Al Shabab
18. Both sides expressed heri satisfaction ove the recently concluded Afro-Arab summit in Kuwait and the commitments and pledges made therein.
19. H.E the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia thanked the leadership, the goveernment and the people of the Republci fo the Sudan for the warm reception and generous hospitality accordd to him and his delegation during their staty in Khartoum.
