Bashir reshuffle his cabinet, including long time serving First Vice President
08 December, 2013Khartoum, (Sudanow)- The ruling National Congress Party (NC) has announced a partial reshuffle in which the influential First Vice President, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, is replaced by a military, President Bashir’s close companion, Gen. Bakri Hassan Salih.
According to previously Presidential Assistant and senior NC official Dr. Nafie Ali Nafie, the NC Leadership Council (LC), in a meeting, chaired by President Omar Al-Bashir, who is also NC Chairman, the reshuffle provided for changing the Presidential team by relieving First Vice President Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, Vice President Dr. Al-Hajj Adam Yusuf, and himself, Presidential Assistant, Dr. Nafie Ali Nafie.
Former Presidential Affairs Minister Gen. Bakri Hassan Salih will take up the post of First Vice President; hitherto Local Government Minister Hassabou Mohamed Abdul Rahman has been named Vice President and Prof. Ibrahim Ghandour Presidential Assistant.
Dr. Al-Fatih Izz al-Dinn will replace Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Tahir as Speaker of the National Assembly (parliament) while Scientific Affairs Minister Eissa Bashari has been named Deputy Speaker.
According to the Official Sudan News Agency SUNA, that carried the partial reshuffle report, the major departures included Finance Minister Ali Mahmoud who is now replaced by Bank of Sudan Deputy Governor Badr Al-Din Mahmoud, Agriculture Minister Abdul Halim Ismail Al-Muta’afi whose office is filled by hitherto Interior Minister Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid who, in turn is replaced by Abdul Wahid Yusuf.
Another key official who left his portfolio is long time serving Oil Minister Dr. Awad Ahmed Al-Jazz who is replaced by Engineer, Makkawi Mohamed Awad, Electricity and Dams Minister Osama Abdullah is replaced by Mutaz Yusuf, while Al-Simaih Al-Siddeik has been named as Minister of Industry in the place of late Abdul Wahab Mohamed Osman, who died in Jordan last month.
The reshuffle also included the appointment of hitherto state Minister for Foreign Affairs, Salah Wanisi as Presidential Affairs Minister, Ms. Sumaya Abu Kashawah as Minister of Higher Education and Ms. Tahani Abdullah, Minister of Communication and Technology.
The report, quoting Dr Nafie, indicated that some ministers retained offices, including Foreign Minister Ali Ahmed Karti and Minerals Minister Kamal Abdul Latif.
Nafie said the ministers representing the political parties allied with the government will be left to their parties to name.
