Presidents of Sudan and Chad agree to cooperate on economy and security issues
24 December, 2013Khartoum, (sudanow.info.sd )Sudan and Chad on Tuesday agreed to work together for maintaing security along their joint borderlines, and at the same time develop cross border trade and transit activities.
President Idris Debby of Chad told a joint press briefing shortly before his departure, ending two days of talks in Khartoum with his Sudanese counterpart, Omar Al Bashir of Sudan, that his meetings in Sudan have focused on boosting cooperation between the two countries through the implementation of tangible projects
Sudan and chad are planning to build a railway that extends from eastern sudan’s sea port on the Red Sea to the Chad, to help faciltate the transportation of commodities to land lock chad and visversa.
President Debby said his talks with President Bashir in Khartoum, also touched on “facilitating trade exchange, the situation in the state of South Sudan and the situation in Cental African Republic” as well as developments in other african neighbouring countries to chad and Sudan.
President Debby made it clear that his country’s stability and security depend on the situation in the region at large and in Darfur in particular.
Presient Al Bashir on his part renewed his country’s confidence in the good office of President Debby of Chad and those of Qatar, to lure nonsignatories rebel elements to join the peace process in the region.
President Debby is currently engaged in mediation efforts between the government of Sudan and Darfur rebel movement, mostly those affiliated to Sudan Liberation Army SLA.
President Bashir on his part was quoted by the official sudan news agency as stressing that his government’s priority is to achieve peace through dialogue with all the rebel movements in Darfur, but he was quoted as stressing that those who reject peacdefull negotiations will be brought to endosre peace process.
President Debby arrived in Khartoum Sunday on a two day state visit to the Sudan. He left Khartoum evening Tuesday at the end of his official visit to the country.
