Sudan-Jordan Relations: Ever Strong and Hope for More
24 July, 2014KHARTOUM (Sudanow.info.sd) - Sudan and Jordan have kept a relationship of intimacy and mutual respect for decades now, irrespective of the changing political tides in and around each of them.
During the celebrations marking Jordan’s national day, 25 May, Jordan’s Ambassador to Khartoum H.E Ayid Jameel Al-Darrajah spoke about the state of these relations in a short interview with Sudanow. Publication of the interview was delayed due to technical problem concerning the magazine website:
Q: Your Excellency, please tell us about Jordan and its history.
A: The Hashemite kingdom of Jordan came into existence as a fruit of the Grand Arab Revolution which was led by the late Prince of Mecca Hon. Al Hussein Bin Ali in 1916. Jordan became an independent state in 1946 on the eastern part of Bilad Al Sham after the Franco-British rule had thwarted the inception of the Grand Arab State conceived by the leaders of that Revolution.
The founder of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan H.H Abdullah bin Al –Hussein Bin Ali was keen about the Arab Islamic nature of the newborn state as an initial step towards the creation of the Grand Arab State that satisfies the ambitions of the entire Arab peoples.
Q: How many Jordanian nationals live and work in the Sudan at the moment and how many Sudanese nationals live and work in Jordan?
A:The Jordanian community in Sudan counts 2200 that include businessmen, professionals , workers in addition to hundreds of learners in Sudanese universities. Sudanese nationals living and working in Jordan are about 8000.
Q: How can you rate the size of Jordanian investment in the Republic of Sudan and those of Sudan in Jordan?
A: Jordan’s investments in Sudan are within an estimate of $1.5 billion in the different spheres of the Sudanese economy.. However, Sudanese investments in Jordan are limited and no specific figures are available at the moment.
Q:please tell us about the major Jordanian investments in the Sudan.
A:To mention just a few, one can cite a major steel factory, a cement plant, a gold mining company in addition to various projects in agriculture, food and medicine industries.
Q: Like Jordan, Sudan is rich in antiquities, what can Jordan do to help Sudan benefit from Jordan’s expertise in the tourist domain?
A: That is possible through the conclusion of tourist development agreements that pave the way for the exchange of expertise, training, visits and tourist propagation.
Q: What things do you like in Sudan and what is your overall view about our country?
A: First and foremost I admire the noble manners of the general Sudanese, their spirit of tolerance, their wide culture, their religious spirit and their friendliness. The Sudan is a true school of good manners, kind heartedness and courage. What really interested me is the wide social solidarity among the Sudanese and the People’s interest in and knowledge about world affairs. Economically speaking Sudan is endowed with wide arable land, sound expertise in the various domains and a rich cultural legacy.
Q: Your Excellency, are you satisfied with the progress of the Sudan-Jordan relations?
A:I am of the view that Sudan and Jordan are capable of uplifting their relationship to greater levels given the principles of solidarity, unity and mutual security and national purpose they share.
Q: Your Excellency, Do you want to add anything?
A: I greet the people of the Sudan and their wise leadership, and equally greet them on the holy occasion of the ascension to heaven of Prophet Mohammad (Al-Esra Wal-Mirage) and wish President Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir a speedy recovery. Thank you.
