27 November, 2011By: Ahmed Alhaj (Site Admin)
The convening of the 59th Session of the Executive Committee & 34th conference of the African Parliamentary Union in Khartoum has significant indications , least of which a recognition of the rich parliamentary experience of the country, that goes deep into history dating back to the time of independence of the country.
It is also a chance for Khartoum to display to its African brothers its history, cultural and ethnic diversity.
It also shows the desire of the Sudanese parliament to cement its ties with its African peers and opposite numbers and strengthen bonds of cooperation.
It is also clear that the African continent is in great need for such a meeting in a world that has fully moved to unity and cooperation, to serve its people and achieve prosperity.
It is within this contest that the Pan African parliament came into being on the 13th of November 1976 in Abidjan, the capital of Cote d'Ivoire. Its current statute was amended during the 22 session that was held in Luanda, Angola, thus the union has become a forum where African views and opinions are expressed freely.
