Winners of British-Sudanese Creative Entrepreneurship Competition Announced
17 March, 2015Khartoum (Sudanow) - The British-Sudanese creative entrepreneurship competition “Mushrouy” on Monday revealed the names of the three winners of its prize.
The first prize (200,000 SDG) went to Ashraf Osman for his project on producing yeast and citric acid from molasses, the second went to Mohamed al-Amin (150,000 SDG) for his project on gold purification and the third (100,000 SDG) went to Omer Awad for his project on quail birds raising for commercial purposes (average exchange rate: 1 US dollar= 5.972 SDG).
The prize includes also a trip for the three winners to the UK in April for two weeks to meet other creative entrepreneurs and receive further training and capacity building to develop successful businesses.
The TV competition Mushrouy “My Project” is part of a collaborative partnership between the British Council, the British Embassy and the Sudanese Young Businessmen Association, aiming to promote youth creative entrepreneurship in the Sudan which will eventually contribute in increasing the national income.
The project is sponsored by COFFTEA, United Capital Bank, Sudani Telecom and the CTC group.
In 2013, launch year, the competition generated lots of interest and created momentum among young people across Sudan.“We received more than 2000 applications, 25% of them submitted by females, and one third of the applicants were under 25 years old. More than half of the applicants presented new ideas” said a British Council statement.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Sudanese Businessmen Association Saood al-Birair, British Ambassador to Sudan Peter Tibber, British Council’s officials, the project’s sponsoring companies and several businesspersons.
Sudani Telecom offered smart cellphones for the top five winners as well as the travel costs to the company’s branches in Senegal and Mauritania.
