KHARTOUM (SUDANOW)- A 90-person strong Ethiopian delegation has landed in Khartoum early morning Friday, within a massive campaign of boosting popular relations between the Sudan and Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian popular diplomacy delegation was received by the speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. al-Fatih Ezziddin, and senior popular and legislative officials, artists and sportsmen from the Sudan.
The delegation led by the speaker of the Ethiopian parliament, Abadula Gemeda, will meet during its five-day visit senior government officials and popular leaders, including political, sports, religious, artistic and community leaders by way of strengthening further the popular and official relations between the two countries.
The delegation grouping academicians, parliamentarians, and former parliament's chairmen, leaders of political parties, businessmen, religious figures, former ambassadors, artists and writers, was given a warm welcome at Khartoum airport with the participation of musical troupes and Ethiopian community in Khartoum.
Gemeda has pointed out in press statements upon arrival at the airport that relations between his country and the Sudan have in recent years been given a huge impetus by the late Prime Minister Meles Zinawe and President Omar Bashir of the Sudan and that the current Prime Minister Haile Mariam Desalgn and Bashir continue on the same track.
The Ethiopian Parliament Speaker has stressed that the delegation is in the Sudan to stress the importance of the bilateral relations between the two countries and the peoples of the two countries. He said the Renaissance Dam will also be beneficiary to both people and to the people of the region.

The speaker congratulated president elect Omar Bashir for winning the recent presidential elections in the Sudan.
It is to be noted that a huge Ethiopian community in Khartoum was at the airport to receive the delegation which comprise a number of Ethiopian popular troupes and folkloric groups as well as artists and sportsmen.
The visit is sponsored by the Sudanese International People's Friendship Council, led by ambassador Abdul Moneim Al Sunni in collaboration with the Sudanese parliament.
Ethiopia's ambassador to the Sudan, Abadi Zemo, noted in press statements published Friday the visit aims at providing a message from the Ethiopian peoples to the Sudanese people on the great commitment of the Ethiopian government and people on the achievement of the joint development and” to enhance the joint cooperation in all domains for the interest of the peoples of the two countries.”
The Ethiopian ambassador said that the visiting Ethiopian delegation will visit Merowe Dam, some of the Sudanese historical sites besides holding of meetings between the delegations members and their Sudanese counterparts.
Sudan two months ago, helped bring closer Egypt and Ethiopia over the construction of the Ethiopian renaissance dam, a move that greatly reduced tension in the region. Sudanese investments are the second largest in Ethiopia, and Ethiopian nationals in Sudan form the largest single community in the country.
