Minister for Information: SUNA the Main Source and Reference for Sudan News and Information

KHARTOUM (SUDANOW)- The Minister for Information has underlined the vital role played by the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) as the main source and reference for information and news about the country, stressing the need to enable the agency, legislatively, materially and morally to better play this role.
The Minister, Ahmed Bilal Osman, has stressed in a meeting with the General Manager of SUNA and its staff, in the presence of the State Minister for Information, Yassir Yusuf, and the Undersecretary, Abdul Magid Haroon, that the government has now launched a new phase and that it depends on the agency to play a decisive role in disseminating the components and the matrix of this new phase.
The minister said the meeting held at SUNA headquarters Sunday was aimed at getting into direct contacts with the various departments of the ministry and to get a new feeler of the plans and projects of these departments beside the challenges that face the working force within the agency.
The State Minister for Information, Yassir Yusuf, has said he was sure the challenges facing the agency could be resolved. He said the real challenge will be the agency's ability to combine between modernizing its methods and its editorial policy and to strike a balance between accuracy and speed in disseminating the news and report in a competitive manner.
The State Minister has proposed the formation of a committee that will look into handling the challenges facing SUNA and at the same time how to effective a qualitative leap in the budget allocated for the agency in the 2016 fiscal year.
The Undersecretary at the Ministry of Information, Abdul Magid Haroon, has meanwhile said there should be a marshal project to get over the problems and hurdles SUNA faces at present. He said it was imperative to set a number of committees that will handle all budgetary requirements so that the 2016 budget will meet the work needs of the agency.
The General Manager of the agency Awad Jadain Mohy Eddin has stressed that SUNA needs implementation of the government decree No 141 that stipulates SUNA to be the main source of information and news and that this has to be coupled with legislative, administrative and technical prerogatives.
The GM has stressed that a new regulation has to be drafted specifying the rule to be played, as well as SUNA’s relations with the other media, federal and state institutions.
