05 November, 2015By: Aisha Braima
KHARTOUM (SUDANOW) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed regret over US Administration's decision to renew the unilateral sanctions imposed on Sudan since 1997, for yet another year as of November the 3rd, 2015.
In a statement it issued here Wednesday the Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected the justifications provided by the American administration on the renewal of the unilateral sanctions on the Sudan.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to express its profound regret against the American administration decision to renew the unilateral sanctions imposed on the Sudan since 1997, the statement said.
It added that the ministry totally refused the justifications cited by the White House with regard to the justifications.
The ministry said there was no need to remind that the international consensus rejects any unilateral economic sanctions as they lack any legitimacy and are frank violations for the international law and for the rights of the people to develop and to achieve economic development and well being, fighting poverty and illiteracy as well as eradication of epidemics and diseases.
It said the countries of the world are agreed that economic sanctions are threat to social peace and security and would only lead to escalation and prolongation of conflicts.
The ministry said the renewal of the unilateral sanctions comes at a time when Sudan was exerting constructive efforts for combating organized crimes and cross border crimes and human trafficking and cooperating in the field of fighting terrorism while at the same time hosting a huge number of refugees from neighboring countries.
The statement said while the government of the Sudan is rejecting the justifications on imposition of unilateral sanctions on the Sudan, it remains well aware of its responsibilities towards its citizens and people.
The statement said the government is going ahead with the commitments made by the President of the Republic to open the doors for dialogue before all people, with the view to reach a national accord among all people of the Sudan and to achieve development, progress and prosperity, and for the Sudan to enjoy security and stability.
