Hundreds of unity state citizens return home

Khartoum, (Sudanow) - Hundreds of Southern Sudanese have begun trekking home in Unity State, southern Sudan, Thursday, a few weeks before the referendum, in which southerners will decide whether to remain part of the country, in implementation of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), the Deputy chairman of the Supreme Committee for the return of the Internally displaced persons, formed by the Unity said.
Abdullah Kam, said they have so far registered over 87,000, stressing that more people were now moving in earnest to register,
"Only today ninety buses and 38 lorries moved out of Khartoum brining the number of those who moved out of Khartoum to the south to 32 thousands," Kam said
The point of departure is located some twenty miles south of down town Khartoum.
He said on Tuesday some 106 trucks moved out of Khartoum to Unity State in Southern Sudan.
A reporter saw hundreds of young men, elderly and children stuffed in buses that take between 40 to 45 people each with their luggage amassed atop moving to the south. This particular programme is organized by the Unity State and most of the returnees hail from the Nuer tribes with few from the Dinka
But it was not clear if those people were happy returning to the south at this particular time, most of them persons who spent at least ten years in Khartoum with young men and children born in IDP camps in Khartoum state.
