Qatar-Funded Projects Inaugurated in Darfur
09 December, 2015AL-FASHIR (SUDANOW) - A six- million dollars’ services complex in Um-Dhai area in East Darfur State for the displaced returnees was inaugurated Wednesday as part of Qatar pledges to support peace in Darfur.
The First Vice – President, Lt. Gen. Bakri Hassan Salih, and the Qatari Deputy Prime Minister, Ahmed bin Abdalla Al-Mahmoud, opened Tuesday four other projects at the returnees’ model villages in Tabat, North Darfur, Arara, Central Darfur, Rongatas, West Darfur and Bulbul Tumbsko in South Darfur.
According to Al-Mahmoud Qatar has funded construction of 10 model villages at the cost of $70 million and pledged to build another 10.
He said his country pledged also to establish $50- million projects to offer educational and health services to the nomads of Darfur.
Qatar, in collaboration with Qatar Charity Society, has also drilled water wells in 11 localities in Darfur states and signed agreements with international partners for implementation of major water projects in the region, al-Mahmoud added.
Bakri affirmed that Darfur has started to recover from the war and regain peace and stability which would be reflected in the revival of the country. He hailed Qatar role in supporting peace and development process in Sudan, calling on the armed rebel movements to join the Doha Peace Agreement in Darfur and the current National Dialogue Conference in Khartoum.
