08 February, 2016By: Aisha Braima
KHARTOUM (SUDANOW) - The Sudanese Armed Forces on Monday declared full control over Jebel Marra in Darfur, securing roads, passages and other vital utilities saying civilians could now resume normal life upon returning to their home there.
In a statement issued Monday, the Armed Forces spokesman, Brig. Ahmed Khalifa Al-Shami, said the Armed Forces had been exercising self restraint towards repeated rebel aggressions and abode by the higher command directives on cease-fire to boost the initiatives of the National Dialogue Conference, but the rebel movements exploited this situation to ambush and frustrate the Armed Forces' movements and administrative convoys. More than 80 violations by the rebels have been registered during the cease-fire period, the statement added.
The statement went on to say that people have followed in the past days these repeated aggressions in Jebel Marra area, a matter which necessitated action to clean the insurgency pockets and to remove the restrictions that were imposed on the movement of citizens.
The operations carried out by the Armed Forces resulted in purging 17 locations which have been a source of threat to the administrative convoys and the movement of citizens, inflicting heavy losses in lives, equipment and ammunitions on the outlaws , the statement said.
The Armed Forces are continuing their actions in the area to wipe out the remaining small pockets of the outlaws, the statement said.
