Winners of Tayeb Salih International Award for Creative Writing Announced

KHARTOUM (SUDANOW) – The Syrian novelist Ms. Somer Shahada has won the first award of al-Tayeb Salih International Award for Creative Writing while the first award for Children Stories and Short Stories categories went to Asmahan Monour, Algeria, and al-Hadi Ali Mohamed Radi, Sudan, respectively.
The value of the first award in each category is 10,000 US dollar, the second award is 8,000 US dollar and the third is 6,000 US dollar.
The second prize of the Award went to Ammar Ali Hassan (novels), Egypt, Nageeb Kialy (Children Stories), Syria, and Mugbool al-Alawe (Short Stories), Saudi Arabia.
Mohamed al-Mustafa al-Tayeb Bashar, Sudan, Ms. Hanan al-Maseri, Syria, and Moawia Mohamed al-Hassan, Sudan, have won the third prize for Novels, Children Stories and Short Stories respectively.
The Sudanese veteran historian Prof. Yousuf Fadl has been awarded the"Person of the Year 2016" award for his outstanding contributions to the fields of culture and education.
The First Vice President Lt. General Bakri Hassan Salih has attended the Award-giving ceremony which was organized Thursday night at the Friendship Hall, Khartoum.
Sponsored by the Communication Group Zain, Sudan, the Award seeks to commemorate the great novelist and prolific writer al-Tayeb Salih , whose novel ‘ Season for Migration to the North’ was internationally enlisted within the top 100 novels in human literary history.
The Award is also meant to uplift the banner of literature and the arts in Sudan and the Arab World.
