KHARTOUM (SUDANOW) - The Higher Council for Environment, Urban and Rural Promotion (HCEURP) in Khartoum State has signed late Monday an agreement with the Saudi Arabian Sipco Company for building an incinerator for dangerous waste, Sudan News agency reported on Tuesday.
The project cost is 10 million US dollar.
Dr. Hassan Abdul Gadir Hilal, the Federal Minister of Environment and Urban Development, who was present during the signing ceremony along with HCEURP Chairman Major General Omar Nimir, said this agreement transfers modern technology for disposing of the dangerous waste in a scientific, safe way and without leaving behind any negative effects on the environment.
The same company inaugurated in March last year a plant for recycling medical garbage. The first one of its kind in Africa, according to its partners, the plant cost 2 million US dollars with a daily production capacity of 20 tons.
The recent agreement covers chemical waste and radioactive waste produced in cancer treatment hospitals.
