07 August, 2016By: Aisha Braima
KHARTOUM (Sudanow.info.sd) – The Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir has revealed that the general conference of the National Dialogue (ND) will be held on October 10.
Speaking on Saturday before the ND’s fifth General Assembly, al-Bashir renewed the government commitment to implement the outcome of the ND conference which was opened on October 10, 2015.
The six subcommittees of the conference have discussed for more than four months main issues representing higher strategic interests of the Sudan including the ruling system, the identity, the freedoms and rights, the national economy and foreign relations. The subcommittees have concluded their work and submitted their recommendations last February.
President al-Bashir instructed the National Dialogue coordination committee (7+7 mechanism) and its conciliatory committee to carry out further efforts for reaching consensus on all recommendations before October 10 so that the general conference can pass the recommendations unanimously without even taking votes.
Al-Bashir has called for continuation of contact with those who have not yet joined the National Dialogue process and that the recommendations be forwarded to them. He has also welcomed willingness by the civilian and armed opposition groups to sign the road-map in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, during the coming days.
He revealed that he has made contacts with a number of heads of state and government and organizations (including the secretary general of the UN, the Chairman of the African Union, the Arab league Secretary, head of the IGAD and special envoys from the different Western countries) to come and attend the ND general conference.
