USA Exempts Medical Equipment In Sudan From Sanctions
03 October, 2016By: Aisha Braima
KHARTOUM (Sudanow.info.sd) - Manager of Khartoum Breast Care Centre (KBCC) hailed on Monday the USA decision to exempt all medical equipment in Sudan from sanctions.
Dr. Hanya Mursi Fadl told Sudan News Agency that the decision was a result of several attempts made as of the recent visit to Sudan by a Congress delegation who came to the KBCC and was briefed on about the medical devices the center lacked as a result of US sanctions.
The American administration has imposed economic sanctions on the Sudan in 1995 on accusations of sponsorship of international terrorism, a charge Sudan has denied.
Fadl had also led strong campaign, paying numerous visits to Washington for meeting with Congress members, with the view to convince them into taking action for tearing down the sanctions.
Fadl thanked in particular the Congress women Janice Schakausky, Marcia Fudger and Dr. al-Sadig Khalafalla for their support and backing that resulted in the end of the sanction on the medical equipment.
Dr. Fadl was awarded the Order of the British Empire last year in appreciation of her efforts for promotion of the woman heath care in Sudan by establishment of the center for diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in 2010.
